Homemade Saltine Crackers

Saltine crackers, always bring back so much childhood memories. I love the maltose syrup sandwiched with two saltine crackers , very traditional snack in Hong Kong. They are so simple but delicious.

Some people eat saltine crackers while they are on diet, cause is plain and doesn’t look too fatty. However, they are very high in calories, high in sugar and salt content. Really not good for you. So this is healthier version of the saltine crackers, very easy to make and it is super tasty!

Mix flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add in butter, crumble it with your hands. Then add in 80ml water, mix into a dough. If the dough is too dry, continue to add some water)

Knead the dough for 2 minutes. The dough will not be smooth, but it is ok. Use cling film to cover, leave it for 1 hour.

Divide the dough into 2, place one piece of dough on the parchment paper, roll into around 1/8 inch thickness (the thinner the crispier).

Cut the dough into square, and use toothpick to prick some holes.

Pop in preheated oven at 180C, bake for 10-15 minutes, or until pale golden colour. If your dough is thicker, need more time to bake

*This recipe can make about 15 crackers (30 pcs square)

*Store the crackers in air-tight box, can keep for 3-5 days
