I love this sweetheart cake so much, yes, you can buy in Chinatown bakery, but they don’t taste so good. So I tried to make it myself and it turn out really good. I use lard, yes, it is very fatty but hey, if you want it to be good, it has to use lard. (if you want, you can use butter) The pastry are so fluffy, with the winter melon sweet filling. They are just perfect!

Minced Ginger & Scallion Dipping Sauce 薑蔥蓉沾醬

Every time when I back to Hong Kong, I must have steamed chicken and Char Sui (PPQ Pork). However, what make me excited is not about the chicken, but the dipping sauce. It is a very simple sauce with minced ginger, scallion and oil. It is soooooo delicious, once you try it, you will love it.

Mr P always ask me to make this sauce, even in UK, we don’t have the ”yellow skin” chicken but this sauce go with roasted chicken. And also perfect just with plain rice.

When talk about Cantonese Dim Sum, I am sure you have tried Shumai (siu mai). The small yellow wrapper with pork and shrimps. So Yummy!

However, this fish siu mai is different, it wrapped with fish (of course!) It is one of the most popular Hong Kong street food. In UK, I can’t find fish siu mai, so I better make it myself. One of my favourite dim sum – Cantonese steamed sponge cake, ok, I have so many favourite dim sum. We always order sponge cake when in Chinese restaurant, usually they cut it into big square, then you just share. Of course, it never enough.

This steamed sponge cake is airy, moist and delicious. Make with brown sugar that make it taste richer. I tried so many recipes and this one is the best so far. Very easy to make and hope you love it too!
